AIKA Representatives Share Best Practices at the CEENQA Seminar

From 8–10 June, representatives of the Quality Agency for Higher Education (AIKA) participated in a workshop and the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Central and Eastern European Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (CEENQA) in Split, Croatia.
The Head of AIKA, Jolanta Silka, took part in the panel discussion “CEENQA from the Perspective of Internal and External Stakeholders.” She noted:
“One of CEENQA’s greatest strengths is its ability to translate broad European quality assurance developments into practical discussions among agencies that often operate in very different national contexts but face remarkably similar challenges.”
As part of the seminar, several agencies presented practical examples of their best practices in the digital transformation of external quality assurance, showcasing tools, methodologies, and innovations implemented across different countries in the region.
AIKA representative Ralfs Meždreijs participated in this session with a presentation of the AIKA e-platform (eplatforma.aika.lv), highlighting it as a unique solution developed specifically for AIKA to support the entire assessment process cycle and facilitate the management of data and documentation for all stakeholders involved. This session demonstrated the diversity of approaches and the shared commitment to enhancing quality assurance processes through digital solutions. AIKA’s presentation was particularly well received.
Participation in the CEENQA annual meeting within the framework of the project, provided a valuable opportunity to gain insight into current trends in the development of higher education quality assurance in Europe and the practical experiences of other quality assurance agencies. Discussions and the exchange of experience focused particularly on strengthening quality culture, as well as the responsibility of higher education institutions for internal quality assurance and continuous improvement. These insights are especially significant in the context of developing and implementing Latvia’s new institutional accreditation model, where institutional self-assessment, quality culture, and responsibility for the quality of operations play a crucial role.
The exchange of experience with quality assurance agencies from other countries regarding the organization of external quality assurance processes, digitalization solutions, the use of artificial intelligence, and new approaches to quality assessment proved particularly valuable. The experience and insights gained will be utilized within the project “Implementation of Cyclical Institutional Accreditation in Higher Education” (No. 4.2.2.6/1/25/I/001) to refine the institutional accreditation methodology, its implementation approach, and the quality assurance processes associated with the new accreditation model.
