The report “Results of Study Field Accreditation in 2020–2024”, prepared by the Quality Agency for Higher Education, provides a comprehensive overview of the study field evaluation and accreditation process in Latvian higher education institutions over a four-year period. The report evaluates accreditation results, summarises the experience of the involved parties – representatives of universities and colleges, experts, and the Study Quality Commission – and identifies strengths and weaknesses that should be taken into account when developing the new regulatory framework for cyclical institutional accreditation.

The analysis is based on document reviews, surveys, structured interviews, and quantitative data. Between 2020 and 2024, 190 study fields were evaluated across 48 higher education institutions, covering 715 study programmes. Most study fields received the maximum accreditation term of six years, indicating a stable internal quality assurance system and development within the sector. At the same time, several challenges were identified – particularly in data management, systematic implementation of recommendations, and the enhancement of international cooperation.

The report provides proposals for improving the efficiency and transparency of the accreditation process, while emphasising the need to strengthen research capacity, student involvement, quality assurance mechanisms, and collaboration both nationally and internationally. Overall, the report serves as an important foundation for the development of the new institutional accreditation model, including the regulatory framework, and for the enhancement of higher education quality in Latvia.
